Online relationship will not always be succesful even after many months of chatting and exclusive online and offline dating.  Although people expect that such relationship can lasts, there are still chances that one relationship will end and that it can never be mended. 

If you are in a situation wherein you think and you feel that the relationship is not worth fighting for anymore because of some circumstances and relationship problems, I guess it’s time to decide for a break-up.  So how will you do the break-up, or how will you end your online relationship with your date?  Should you do it in person, should you do it through online chat, or should you do it through e-mail?

Breaking up is a serious matter and should be decided and agreed upon by both parties, no matter how painful it will be for both of you.  The best way to discuss the reasons why you have to end the relationship is in person, but this is also the hardest, especially if you are not the type of person who is good in verbal communication.  If your situation and circumstances and even your location do not allow one or both of you for a face-to-face discussion, or perhaps because you are not courageous enough to say it personally, then you can opt for a break-up through e-mail. 

Actually, breaking-up a relationship or discussing this serious decision through e-mail is not the right way, but if you prefer to do it this way due to some acceptable reasons, there are decent ways to do it so as you would not come out as disrespectful to your partner. 

First, make sure your decision is final before you start writing your e-mail.  As you write the e-mail letter, include your reasons, the shorter the better, why you came to such decision.  Be honest with your reasons despite the fact that it might hurt the other person. Your intentions should also be made clear.  Do not say that you just need some time and space when you intend to end the relationship for good.  As much as possible, consider how the other person would feel by being compassionate with your words, yet show that you are firm with your decision.

Breaking up through e-mail is somehow disrespectful, especially if you have been together in this relationship for quite a long time.  But since your relationship is an online one, and both of you are located far from each other, distance is the great hindrance why you can’t discuss about this break-up in person and face to face.  Sending the other person an e-mail about the break-up is better than not discussing such matter at all.  At least you made a respectful way out of the relationship instead of just disappearing from the scene without any word.
